I. Quick Overview

The DHHL Pin-Golf Championship is 1 round of competition for all players. All players compete in groups on Saturday, playing through 1 round of Pin-Golf made up of 9 Pin-Holes. Based on the Pin-Strokes earned over that round, with full entry, the top 16 qualifiers will advance to the A finals which will be 2 additional rounds of Pin-Golf. In addition, the top 8 players will advance to the B Final and also play an additional round of Pin-Golf. If there are less than 32 entries 50% of the qualifiers will go to A with the remainder of entries moved to the B to a maximum of 24 players advancing to either the A or B finals.

Scores from the qualifying rounds will be carried forward to the Final Rounds in A and B Division.

III. Format Details

1. Qualifying Rounds

Players will complete 1 rounds of 9 Pin-Holes during Qualifying. Each Pin-Hole will consist of a pinball machine with a target score. The number of balls it takes for the player to reach that target score will represent the number of Pin-Strokes earned for that hole. Should a player not reach the target score after a full game is completed, a stroke value will be determined based on how close the player was to the target score at the end of their game.

For example, the target score on ACDC may be set at 50 million points. A player will continue playing the game until he reaches 50 million points. If reached, the number of balls it took to reach that score will be recorded for that Pin-Hole. If the player fails to reach the target score after 5 balls are played, they will be awarded a score based on how close they were to that target:

40,000,000 – 49,999,990 points  = 6 strokes [80% of par]
30,000,000 – 39,999,990 points = 7 strokes [60% of par]
20,000,000 – 29,999,990 points = 8 strokes [40% of par]
10,000,000 – 19,999,990 points = 9 strokes [20% of par]
0 – 1,999,990 points = 10 strokes [<20% of par]

A maximum of 10 Pin-Strokes per Pin-Hole will be enforced. Scores will be cumulative across all rounds played.

2. Advancing to Finals (Based on 36 entries)

At the end of the qualifying round the top 16 scores, will advance to the finals. A tiebreaker game will be played there are ties for 16th place.

In addition, the next top 8 players (17-24 place), will advance to the B Final. A tiebreaker game will be played if there are ties for 24th place.

For both the A Final and B Final, scores from the qualifying round will be carried forward. The final standings will consist of a player’s total score across all 2 or 3 rounds of play.

3. Machines

Tournament games will consist of 9 games spanning all eras (Electromechanical through the latest DMD/LCD games). The game list will be published prior to the tournament so participants have plenty of time to get familiar with game rules and develop a strategy beforehand, although this list is tentative and is subject to change leading up to the event. ACDC, Alien Poker, Atlantis, Dr Who, Fish Tales, Getaway, Jackbot, Sopranos, Swords of Fury.

4. Order of Play

When starting Round 1, the person who is listed first on the scorecard will go first on the first Pin-Hole. For all subsequent holes the competitor with the lowest score at the previous Pin-Hole takes the honor of going first at the next Pin-Hole. The competitor with the second lowest score plays next and so on. If two or more competitors have the same score following a Pin-Hole, they play the next Pin-Hole in the same order as at the previous Pin-Hole. (Just like the rules of golf).

For the start of Rounds 2, the competitor with the lowest score in their group will have honors of going first to start the round. In any tied situations we will use a designated machine score, if still tied then a coin flip to determine position.

5. Extra Balls

All attempts will be made for extra balls to be disabled for all machines. Should a player earn an extra ball, they will play it as part of the same Pin-Stroke on that particular Pin-Hole.
